History

Our history began over 100 years ago with the foundation of two companies – Drake & Gorham, electrical engineers, and Arthur Scull & Son, sanitary engineers. Both of these companies were founded by Victorian-era entrepreneurs with inventive minds, a talent for business, and remarkable drive and energy. In 1966 Drake & Scull International was established in the UAE, and has grown rapidly to become a market leader providing end to end integrated engineering capabilities.

 
Key Milestones
1881 Arthur Scull starts his plumbing business in Bristol
1893 Bernard Drake founds Drake & Gorham, a new electrical company with colleague Marshall Gorham
1964 Drake & Gorham and Arthur Scull & Son merge to form Drake & Scull engineering in the UK
1966 Drake & Scull International is established in Abu Dhabi
1967 Drake & Scull International completes works on King Hussein Medical City in Jordan and Gulf Hotel in Bahrain
1975 Drake & Scull International completes works on Intercontinental Hotel & Conference Center, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
1977 Drake & Scull International is incorporated in Dubai
1985 Drake & Scull International completes works on Al Bustan Hotel in Oman
1987 Completed MEP works on the prestigious Emirates Golf Club, the first PGA-approved golf course in the Middle East.
1993 Drake & Scull International completes works on Emirates Aviation Training Centre in Dubai, UAE – to-date, one of the most reputable aviation training centers in the region.
1994 Drake & Scull International completes works on the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Baynunah Tower Abu Dhabi, an unprecedented structure, commissioned by the Abu Dhabi Royal family.
1998 Completed MEP works on Jumeirah Beach Hotel, one of the most iconic hotels in the Middle East.
2001 Completed MEP works on numerous buildings at Dubai Internet City, the Middle East’s largest technology hub.
2006 Drake & Scull International established Infrastructure Water & Power (IWP) division that offer among other services, District Cooling Technology which is an energy efficient solution that on the long term reduces the overall demand on the electrical grid and controls toxic emissions.
2006 Completed work on the district cooling scheme at Jumeirah Beach Residence, the single largest district cooling plant in the region at its time.
2007 Drake & Scull International acquires "Gulf Technical Construction Company" (GTCC), a civil contracting company to complement its IWP operations
2007 Completed work on the district cooling system at Dubai Festival City, a major Dubai mall.
2007 Commenced works on:
  • Fairmont Palm Residence and Fairmont Palm Hotel (Palm Island, Dubai) - MEP
  • District cooling plant and network at Motor City (Dubai) - IWP
  • Laguna Hotel and Tower (Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai) - Civil
  • Rotana on the Park (Abu Dhabi) - MEP
  • Souq Residence FZCO, Golden Mile, Palm Jumeirah (Dubai) - MEP
  • Anantara Palm Jumeirah and Tiara Residence - MEP
  • Abu Dhabi National Exhibition- Exhibition Halls Phase II (Abu Dhabi) – MEP
  • 2008 Drake & Scull International offers 55% of its shares to the public and the IPO is 101 times oversubscribed.
    2008 Commenced works on:
  • Royal Amwaj Resort & Spa (Dubai) – Civil and MEP
  • Infinity Tower (Dubai) - MEP
  • Meydan Central Cooling Plant (Dubai) - IWP
  • Sahara Mall Expansion (Sharjah) - MEP
  • Abu Dhabi Rotana and Centro Rotana Hotels (Yas Island, Abu Dhabi) - MEP
  • Hadeed District Cooling Project (Saudi) – IWP
  • 2008 On November 16 2008, Drake & Scull International officially becomes a Public Joint Stock Company (PJSC)
    2008 GTCC opens an office in Abu Dhabi
    2009 On March 16 2009, Drake & Scull international becomes the 1st multi service contracting company to be listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM)

  • The Kingdom of Sheba development on Palm Jumeirah, bringing the total value of contracts awarded to DSI PJSC on Palm Jumeirah to over AED 1.4 billion (Dubai) - MEP
  • The River development, a luxury condominium building located on the Chaophraya River in Bangkok, Thailand – (the first contract awarded to DSI PJSC in Thailand) – MEP
  • Mangrove Place (Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi) – CIVIL and MEP
  • 2009

    IWP introduces Telecom Infrastructure Services to its utility portfolio

  • Drake & Scull International PJSC opens offices in: Thailand, Jordan, Libya
  • DSI PJSC acquires 82% of Passavant – Roediger , a Global Technology Provider of Wastewater, Water and Sludge Treatment
  • DSI PJSC acquires 75% of Drake & Scull International for Electrical Contracting in Kuwait
  • 2010

  • Complete Infrastructure Works including District Cooling (Khalifa A City in Abu Dhabi) - IWP

  • 2010

    The establishment of "Drake & Scull Water and Power LLC" (DSWP) a fully owned subsidiary by DSI PJSC, set up to manage and control all existing and new water, power and infrastructure projects in the MENA region

    The establishment of "Drake & Scull Construction" (DSC) a fully owned subsidiary by DSI PJSC, set up to manage and control all existing and new civil projects in the Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    DSI PJSC acquires Drake & Scull International Qatar, a prominent player in MEP contracting in Qatar
