Board of Directors
With over forty years experience in the engineering and construction industry, Drake & Scull International's Chief Commercial Officer, Michael Salmon, is fully prepared to embrace the opportunities of DSI's recent public listing.
His role is part of the corporate team running the company and as such, his experience is invaluable.
He says that the floatation and potential growth of the company makes his current role with DSI one of the most exciting opportunities of his long career.
Michael began his career working on construction projects whilst attending college, which allowed him to gain skills in a practical manner and apply them on the job. Michael's work has taken him as far-a-field as Nigeria, where he worked as a Senior Surveyor working on three major infrastructure developments for the Nigerian Army including Power and Water Installations, roads and bridges and the Ibadan Relief Ring Road
Following his work in Nigeria, Michael returned to the UK working for Tilbury Douglas (now Interserve) from 1978 -1981. Later in 1981 Michael then returned overseas to take up a new appointment where he held senior management positions with Gammon Construction Ltd, the largest construction company in Hong Kong working on major infrastructure works including the Mass Transit Railway, HK Stock Exchange, Exchange Square Towers 1&2, Ocean Park Redevelopment, Chep Lap Kok Airport Enabling Works, RHKJC Shatin Stables and Standard Chartered Bank.
Michael stayed in Hong Kong till 1992, running his own private consultancy and contracting to many of the companies he had worked with in the past.
In 1992 Michael returned to the UK and continued to run his own private consultancy and began his 15 year relationship with Drake & Scull UK. It was there that Michael worked on important projects in London. He worked as a Senior Commercial Manager on the London Underground project which consisted of two major contracts on the Jubilee line in a Joint Venture with Emcor and Drake & Scull UK. The project was based on the upgrade and replacement of London‘s aging infrastructure to bring it into the 21st century. In addition to the London Underground project, Michael worked as a Commercial Manager on the Canary Wharf project and the Lanham Hilton Hotel.
Michael's experience in Major Infrastructure Projects continued from 1999 to 2008 when he was appointed as Commercial Director for EMCOR Infrastructure and Rail Services and continued to extend his experience in other major projects including the Channel Tunnel Rail Link; London Underground – Tubelines & Metronet; Canary Wharf Development; Fulham Broadway Redevelopment.
Michael's primary objective in his new role as Chief Commercial Officer is to introduce, improve and fully implement the required Systems and Controls to take effect as a result of DSI's listing. This covers development and implementation of an Operations Reporting System across all three of DSI's business streams which will complement financial reporting and provide Operations Management with a reliable platform on which to run each of their business units.
